nichez-logo-leftGraphicAs part of their overall goal for success, EVOBEAN has partnered with Nichez, a Denver based boutique marketing business focused on marketing and brand management. Ben Stockman and Mike Flaherty are the masterminds behind the EVOBEAN design. All of their work is done and processed through their quaint office located within Union station. Here the atmosphere is overflowing with creative elements; from the wall graffiti, to the 12’ tall chalk idea boards. Nichez is the perfect team to complete “the evolution of the bean: EVOBEAN”.

Neither one native born, both Ben and Mike hail from the great Midwest, Ben grew up in Cedar Rapids Iowa and moved out to the Rocky Mountains with his family when he was ten. However, Ben would exclaim that “I’m more Denver than Iowa!” Mike was born in Lincoln Nebraska. He also moved out to Denver with his family and has stayed ever since.

Ben attended CU Denver, majoring in marketing. He has always had an ambitious spirit so at the ripe age of 19 Ben started his own business, Peak Performance, which focused on sports nutrition. After college, Ben moved forward as a marketing director for Bendelow Law Firm in Denver. His relationship with Bendelow would continue to flourish throughout his working career with Bendelow Law Firm becoming Nichez first major client.

Mike went to the Art Institute of Denver where he majored in graphic design. Mike’s career  out of college has included Solariaeo Design Firm and TNO advertising.  His work is unique to every client and this he takes great pride in.

The two were brought together on a project for Bendelow Law Firm. Mike’s company was brought in to head up the creative aspects of a high profile event that Ben was managing.  After spending months looking for a name for their new company, Ben stumbled up on article about niches; it was described as finding who you are and not being all things to all people. The name was a hit and Nichez was established in 2001.

Since its inception eight years ago, Nichez is currently responsible for major accounts such as: Ink! Coffee, Anthony’s Pizza, Electronics By Design, and Jewish community foundation. The company continues to try and keep their ideas fresh by refusing to specialize in one particular department. They are continuously working collaboratively with clients from strategy, to concept, to fruition of design.

Nichez was connected to EVOBEAN through mutual interests. Mike met with David Miller years ago at a social event. The two became fast friends and snowboarding buddies. On the slopes, Mike and Dave would throw ideas around about creative new businesses. When David decided to create EVOBEAN, Nichez was his obvious choice for their creative intellect and flawless management. David knew that EVOBEAN would need excellent branding or it would fall through the cracks with all the other coffee companies.

Once the companies joined forces, it was time to get down to work.  The company would need a brand that reaches the aware and sophisticated demographic of coffee drinkers. EVO- stands for the evolution of coffee. A lot of influence into the EVOBEAN design was transportation of the person – the brain has evolved as a coffee bean. The consumer begins to think deeply about coffee. Nichez  spent 3-4 months just focusing on the branding. The original idea was a completely different logo however, when Ben and Mike saw it in a presentation they realized that it needed to be changed. They needed to go back to the drawing board. To go back on one of their designs was uncharted territory for Nichez’s. In 8 years this was the first EVER reversal for the company. The EVO-team kept on with Nichez, trusting their creative impulses. The new brand was a hit and is one that Nichez will attempt to submit this year for various contests.

The relationship between Nichez and EVOBEAN has been a successful one. Nichez is an essential element to the EVO-Team. Ben, a gluten-intolerant, beer-loving guy  continues to keep the ideas on track and moving forward.  Mike routinely takes trips to Colfax where he can observe the diversity of the populous as a way to continue to connect design with lifestyle.
